Hypertension as a Secondary Diagnosis

High blood pressure, or hypertension, is a common condition that can lead to serious health complications if left unmanaged. At Suburban Endocrinology, we specialize in identifying and treating secondary hypertension—cases where elevated blood pressure is caused by an underlying endocrine disorder such as thyroid dysfunction, adrenal disease, or hormonal imbalance.

Common endocrine-related causes of secondary hypertension include:

  • Hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism

  • Primary aldosteronism (Conn’s syndrome)

  • Pheochromocytoma

  • Cushing’s syndrome

  • Parathyroid disorders

  • Acromegaly

It’s important to note that we do not manage primary or essential hypertension as a standalone diagnosis. We only evaluate and treat high blood pressure when it is suspected to be linked to an underlying endocrine issue.

If your primary care provider believes your hypertension may be caused by a hormonal or gland-related condition, they may refer you to our clinic for further evaluation. Our goal is to identify the root cause and collaborate with your care team to improve both your blood pressure and overall health.
